Byzantium was once an Empire. The Byzantine are the ones to do the primary dealings with Jerusalem...and are avid in the Crusades against the Saracens. They are highly religious, taking the Pope's order's very serious.
The current Emperor is Isaac II Angelos, along with his wife Margaret of Hungary.
